Position Description:

The Refugee Resettlement & Placement program helps welcome and orient newcomers to life in Portland and The United States. The R&P team assists refugees in finding long-term housing and gainful employment, and connects them to culturally specific services, opportunities, and community. The goal is for refugees to exit the program with the tools and knowledge to be self-sufficient in their new home.

Position Summary:

Do you have free time during regular business hours and want to help the Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization community? Newly arrived community members need help getting to and from errands around the Portland metro area.

As a transportation assistant, you will use your vehicle to provide necessary and convenient transportation to IRCO clients and community members. Possible errands include medical appointments, social security office visits, school enrollment, job-related training, and other essential appointments during regular business hours.

Requirements:

Must be 18 or older

Must pass background check

Must have proof of car insurance and a valid driver’s license

Must sign an acknowledgement of liability

Must have a reliable and tidy car with space for luggage

All external and internal lights are working – including, but not limited to, headlights, taillights, and running lights

Tires are properly inflated and have good tread and no significant damage

Windows are intact and fully functional, and windshield wipers are functional

All safety equipment is fully functional, including, but not limited to seatbelts and airbags

The car body is fully intact, including but not limited to mirrors and bumpers being present and attached and doors fully functional

Dashboard and its controls are fully functional and visible at night

The vehicle is generally roadworthy and free of trash and debris

Must have a good driving record

Time Commitment:

This is an ongoing project, and we are looking for dedicated and flexible volunteers that are interested in helping regularly.
