SEEC Tour Guide

SEEC program for seniors and youth, Refugee Senior Program for Ukrainians, and the Oregon Refugee Children Assistance and Support.

Field trips will be in and out of town. Transportation is available.

9-3; Monday and Friday. 1-2 times per month.

Program Description:

IRCO's Slavic & Eastern European Center (SEEC) draws on our diverse cultural and ethnic communities to build a safe future and flourish together through respect, understanding, openness to dialogue and mutual support. This role serves the following programs directly: SEEC program for seniors and youth, Refugee Senior Program for Ukrainians, and the Oregon Refugee Children Assistance and Support.

Position Summary:

As a SEEC Tour Guide, you will enrich the lives of seniors and youth from the Ukrainian refugee/immigrant community in Portland. This position offers a unique opportunity to share your knowledge of local history while fostering connections and camaraderie among an intergenerational community. Join us in celebrating diversity, sharing stories, and building bridges across generations through the lens of Portland's vibrant past. Job duties include:
• Conducting Guided Tours: Lead Ukrainian seniors/youth on engaging tours of historical sites and landmarks in Oregon.
• Research and Preparation: Conduct thorough research on historical sites, events, and figures relevant to the history of the area being toured. Prepare informative and entertaining narratives to share during the tours.
• Facilitating Discussions: Foster an inclusive and interactive environment during tours, encouraging participants to ask questions, share personal anecdotes, and engage in discussions about the historical significance of each location.
• Promoting Cultural Exchange: Facilitate opportunities for cultural exchange by encouraging seniors/youth to share their own experiences, traditions, and perspectives related to Ukrainian heritage, and fostering dialogue with other community members encountered during the tours.

• Have experience or willingness working with immigrants and refugees.
• Passion about Oregon and Washington.
• Ability to tell engaging stories.

Requirements:

• Must be 18 or older
• Must pass background check

Time Commitment:

9-3; Monday and Friday. 1-2 times per month.
