Cleaning and organization will take place during regular business hours, as needed, as new refugees arrive. We will generally have at least 48 hours' notice.
Position Description:
The Refugee Resettlement & Placement program helps welcome and orient newcomers to life in Portland and The United States. The R&P team assists refugees in finding long-term housing and gainful employment, and connects them to culturally specific services, opportunities, and community. The goal is for refugees to exit the program with the tools and knowledge to be self-sufficient in their new home.
Position Summary:
When refugees arrive in Portland, they are taken to temporary housing. With multiple families arriving every week, staff are looking for energetic volunteers (available during regular business hours) who can help clean and organize homes between family stays, so they feel comfortable and safe when they arrive. A cleaning checklist, cleaning supplies, and PPE will be provided on-site. Volunteers will be expected to:
Dust furniture and surfaces
Sweep, vacuum, and mop the floors
Laundry of sheets and towels- Washer and Dryer on-site
Clean rooms- including bathroom and kitchen
Requirements:
Must be 18 or older
Must pass background check
Time Commitment:
This is an ongoing project, and we are looking for dedicated and flexible volunteers that are interested in helping regularly.
