Program Description:
IRCO’s Free Tax Support Program collaborates with ODHS and the IRS to provide free tax preparation services to eligible taxpayers. These services are a free, reliable, and trusted source for preparing tax returns. Each filing season, volunteers prepare federal and state returns.
This service helps:
• People with low or moderate income, persons with disabilities, the elderly
• Immigrant and refugee community members of Portland and limited English-speaking taxpayers
Position Summary:
Do you pay great attention to detail? Quality Reviewer volunteers will review each tax return completed by volunteer tax preparers, correct errors, ensure that every taxpayer receives top quality service, and provide substantive tax knowledge and guidance to volunteers. Quality Reviewers can also assist the Site Coordinators by answering basic volunteer questions regarding the software or filing process.
Some of the languages our clients speak include Vietnamese, Russian, and Spanish, so language skills are a plus! However, interpretation services will be provided when needed.
We are looking for volunteers with experience and knowledge of filing for previous tax years. This can look like volunteering for Tax Year 2023 or 2022 at a VITA clinic or having experience filing taxes professionally. IRCO will provide training resources/courses for the 2024 Tax Year certification.
Requirements:
• Some experience necessary, see details above
• Open to working with immigrant and refugee communities—multilingual skills are a plus!
• Must be 18 or older
• Must pass background check
• Complete self-paced tax volunteer training
• Pass open book IRS Volunteer Certification Exams to the Advanced level
• Attend volunteer orientation
Time Commitment:
Minimum 4 hours per week commitment during tax season (February - April)
