RISE – After-School Tutor

Monday-Thursday, 2:30-5pm

Program Description:

RISE volunteers act as tutors, mentors and group facilitators. They provide academic support and assistance, facilitate activities and games (when needed) and help students practice English and build community. Volunteers can also participate in workshops and field trips.

Position Summary:

RISE volunteers act as tutors, mentors and group facilitators. They provide academic support and assistance, facilitate activities and games (when needed) and help students practice English and build community. Volunteers can also participate in family engagement events and field trips.

Strong educational foundation in one or more of the following subjects: Math, English (Literature & Composition), Sciences, Foreign Language. Ideal volunteers have experience in teaching, tutoring, or group facilitation and/or speak Somali, Karen, Burmese, Nepali, Arabic, Spanish, Russian, Ukranian, or Vietnamese. RISE places a large emphasis on community building and as a result, we are looking for volunteers who are compassionate, hardworking, possess a good sense of humor and can adapt to various situations and learning needs.

Requirements:

• Must be 18 or older
• Must pass background check

Time Commitment:

Monday-Thursday, 2:30-5pm (volunteer commitment: 1 day/week minimum) for at least one semester of the 2024-25 Academic Year (October 2024-January 2025 or January-June 2025)
