After School Tutor – McDaniel High School SUN

Monday-Thursday, 3:30 pm-5:30 pm, following the school year calendar

Program Description:

SUN Community Schools are full-service neighborhood hubs where the school and community partners come together to make sure kids and families have what they need to be successful—in school and in life. SUN Community schools strategically organize community resources to provide instructional support, skill development, recreational activities, and family support.

Position Summary:

Do you enjoy helping high school students reach their full potential? We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to serve as tutors at the McDaniel High School drop-in after school program.

• Volunteers can tutor in a range of subjects from high school math and science to English.
• Some previous experience tutoring or teaching is preferred.
• Some languages spoken by students include Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, and Chuukese so speaking another language is a plus!
• In the interest of building rapport with students, ideally, tutors will volunteer once a week during the school year. At the minimum, tutors can volunteer twice a month for 3 months.

But above all, we are looking for volunteers willing to connect with youth in an impactful way!

Requirements:

• Have experience or willingness to work with high school students from immigrant and refugee communities.
• High school diploma required. Pursuing or having obtained a post-secondary degree is desired but not required.
• Must be 18 or older
• Must pass school district background check

Time Commitment:

2 hours once a week during the school year, minimum 2 hours twice a month for 3 months
