African Immigrant and Refugee Elder Health (ARIEH)

With the support of Spirit Mountain Community Foundation, IRCO launched a pilot project to improve African elders’ health by addressing the roots of the problem: social and cultural isolation.  ARIEH engages over 50 African elders annually with weekly culturally and linguistically accessible group presentations of health information, screenings provided by nurse interns, and health services to improve African elders’ understanding of U.S. health care and enhance access to preventative care.  African elders are also offered volunteer opportunities such as intergenerational wisdom sharing with young people, and leadership development.  For more information, please contact IRCO’s Africa House at (503) 802-0082.

Please see the Africa House site here.
